This weekend is Artwalk in downtown Sarnia, Ontario. It always feels like it’s finally the beginning of the summer once Artwalk weekend arrives. SO many artists and vendors have been working for months to prepare for the festivities and it is definitely worth a trip downtown. Even if it’s raining (which is in the forecast!), bring your umbrellas and support the “Sarnians” who have worked so tirelessly to pull this amazing community event together. My sister, Karla Marie, has a tent set up in front of the Library on Christina Street. She focused on printmaking in university, and has some beautiful hand carved linoleum prints. I have an incredible tree print hanging in my dining room that I never tire of. This year, my favourite pieces are of trees printed onto fabric and stretched onto a wooden frame (she has a whimsical, organic tree theme emerging repeatedly in her work). You will have to visit her this weekend to see what I am talking about! Many of her pieces fun, colourful and would be a unique change from “traditional” nursery art in a child’s room, so I photographed one of her original linocuts in Lilah and Millie’s room. It’s printed onto a two inch wooden canvas. LOVE the “pop” of colour. My good friend Julie Tetreault of Looking Glass Memories also has a tent at Artwalk. She takes YOUR photos, and creates a truly unique way to hang your memories with laminate prints in an up-cycled, antique window. She will be downtown with her unique collection of windows, so if you are interested in having a piece made for your home, this is a great chance to pick out your window. Below is an example of one of Julie’s windows displaying some photos I took of my girls last year (I was pushing the ISO with the below images because it was so dark today, but you get the idea!)
And what post is complete without at least one photos of (one of) my little munchkins….
