Janice and Dan are the proud parents of little Mr. C. He is the cutest little thing. Every time I photograph a newborn, I can’t help but think about how I’ll be holding a baby of my own that tiny again in just three short months. I write this post the day after photographing the wedding of one of my oldest friends and her new husband (Diana and Reck). The newly married couple turned out to be mutual friends of Janice and Dan. Today, I can’t help but think about the connection between some of the biggest events in our lives. My wedding vows to Mike have always been so important, and our wedding day was incredibly special, but the day I gave birth to Lilah, those words we spoke over three years ago took on so much more meaning. Having a child together just seems to draw a couple so much closer together. I see it again and again with the couples who ask me to photograph their newborns – in the tired eyes exchanging loving glances over their sleeping baby. Janice and Dan are no exception.
These first few weeks with a new baby are sometimes so difficult, and the learning curve seems so steep. But as much as you are unprepared for the lack of sleep, and the uncertainty of whether you are parenting the “right” way, you are also never prepared for how much more deeply you will love your partner, and the wonder you will both feel about creating something so precious and perfect. You are never prepared for how much this little being, whom you have only just met, will suddenly seem like he has always been a part of your lives. Janice and Dan, congratulation on your beautiful new family.
