Lindsay and Ethan are expecting their first baby on Christmas Eve. Their pregnancy is bringing back so many memories of those last weeks Mike and I spent waiting for Lilah. December 24th was when Lilah was due. I remember sitting in a church pew at the Christmas Eve service imagining my water breaking. And then I imagined a beautiful homebirth beside the woodstove with snow falling outside the window, and Christmas carols playing softly in the background. It never happened that way, though. She ended up arriving on January 8th by induction, but exactly when she was suppose to come. I don’t hold any expectations for Amelia Rose’s arrival this winter. I know she will come when she is ready. What I do remember most vividly about that Christmas season almost two years ago, is the feeling it held. It was still full of the magic and anticipation I remember from my childhood. I’m sure this year will be filled with so much warmth and happiness for Lindsay and Ethan.
Lindsay and Ethan are both such vibrant and happy people. I always get excited when I am photographing a couple, and they are so obviously in love with life and with one another. That spark makes such a difference in my photos. What I do really has nothing to do with me, but everything to do with the connections between people. Between a husband and wife, a mother and her newborn child, a father and his daughter, sisters sharing secrets and giggles.
I loved every minute of this session. Lindsay, you are so beautiful. I hope you look at these photographs and see yourself the way I do from the other side of the camera (and the way I’m positive Ethan sees you). Looking forward to your new arrival in a few weeks!
