Thought I’d post this photo of Lilah in her costume before I go to bed. I wore this SAME costume when I was a baby. My mom made it from a few scraps of black material and a couple metres of rickrack. She just crafted up a little kittycat costume without even looking at a pattern. It’s been worn for over two decades by at least seven babies including both my siblings and my cousins and my good friend, Breeanne. My mom said Lilah “had” to have an eyeliner nose and whiskers. I was so paranoid about Lilah having a reaction to makeup on her face that I went out and actually spent $15 on organic eyeliner. Figures. A few whiskers cost me as much as a purchased costume probably would have cost. However, I will be the first to admit that the whiskers were definitely an adorable touch. Mom, you were right (as usual!). I can’t believe you went to school every day to teach a room full of thirty kindergarten students, and STILL managed to have the time to make us all costumes from SCRATCH! EVERY YEAR! Next year, when Lilah’s old enough to decide what she wants to be for Halloween, I’m going to make her a costume. Whatever she wants. The seams probably won’t line up, and the stitching will be embarassing, but I’ll do it anyway because I want her to have memories like the ones I have of Halloween growing up. The costumes I wore were never the most impressive at school, and the fit wasn’t always quite right, or the finished product exactly as I imagined it before-hand, but I remember always being SO proud because I was wearing something that my mom made FROM SCRATCH…and with love…
ok so I typed it in an engagement slide sorry Sarah….
